As one of Japan’s most famous exports and Hello Kitty is loved by children across the globe. You can step into the world of Hello Kitty and other popular Sanrio characters such as My Melody, Little Twin Stars and Gudetama at the Sanrio Puroland and it is only a 30-minute train ride away from Shinjuku station.
Tokyo is not all about the mouse. The queen of cute Hello Kitty and her friends have their very own theme park in Tokyo, and you’re invited! Sanrio Puroland is entirely indoors and is perfect as a rainy day activity. The wonderland is dedicated to all the Sanrio characters including My Melody, Kuromi, Little Twin Stars, Pom Pom Purin and, of course, Hello Kitty.
Puroland is divided into zones that are split across four floors centered around the Wisdom Tree. The Wisdom Tree is lit up with fairy lights and neon bows and is a feast for the eyes. Inside the tree you can ring Hello Kitty’s Bell of Happiness.
The parade that takes place at lunchtime around the Wisdom Tree is one of Puroland’s main attactions. The place isn’t big on rides (Sanrio Character Boat ride and the My Melody Drive) but where it really shines is in the different character “lands” where you can basically drown yourself in your favorite character. Popular ones are the Lady Kitty House for Hello Kitty fans and the recently opened – surprise – Gudetama Land. Character meet and greets are also available on the fourth floor during the designated time slots.
The food court in Puroland is a dream come true for customers who like pink! As you might expect, the food presentation is exceptionally cute. The Dream Café on the fourth floor is much quieter than the main food court and you can enjoy a relaxing cup of tea up there after lunch.
The stores carry a number of items that are exclusive to Puroland so be sure to grab yourself some souvenirs before you leave. There are a number of seasonal events that take place at Sanrio Puroland, so it is a great place to visit throughout the year. For information on how to get there, click here.
